Speciation Analysis

SMALL MOLECULE ANALYSIS

We provides a careful and detail focused speciation analysis service to satisfy a variety of customers needs. Speciation is the process of separating and quatifying different oxidation states or molecular versions of an element. For example speciation analysis may be used to analyse traces quantities of arsenic to determine the quantities of pentavalent arsenate versus the more toxic trivalent arsenite ions in solution.

Services

  • Ultra Violet / Visible Light Spectroscopy

  • Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectometry (LC-MS-MS)

  • Electrospray Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS)

ULTRA VIOLET / VISIBLE LIGHT SPECTROSCOPY

UV/Vis spectroscopy – used to determine the concentration of analytes with a chromophore present in solution

LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY MASS SPECTROMETRY (LC-MS/MS)

Liquid Chromatography mass spectrometry – (LC-MS/MS) QTOF accurate mass tandem mass spectrometry is used to separate and quantify organic compounds. High sensitivity full scan screening available for targeted or non-targeted analysis providing information on elemental composition and empirical formula e.g. screening for antibiotics in waste water from dairy farms.

ELECTROSPRAY IONISATIOIN MASS SPECTROMETRY (ESI-MS)

Electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry is used to quantify and determine the molecular weight of a wide range of compounds in solution ranging from small pharmaceuticals up to large biomolecules such as proteins. The hyphenation of mass spectrometry to separation techniques such as liquid chromatography facilitates the isolation of analytes from a multicomponent mixture.
